Chris Clarke is a Master printer who trained at Vinalhaven Press in Maine under Chris Erickson and Orlando Condeso. Presently he is working at Galamander Press and Spring Press in New York. Chris has collaborated with Robert Indiana, Donald Sultan, Leon Golub, Richard Hass and Brian Novatny among others.
Chris is a talented artist in his own right, specialising in etching and steel -facing. Much of Chris's etching work is inspired by artists such as Goya, Piranesi and Rembrandt. A recent suite of etchings describe scenes at the derelict Northhampton State Hospital, Mass.
Laura Gencarella is the Gallery Manager at David Krut Projects New York. She has a background in printmaking/book arts and studied lithography and collaboration at Tamarind Institute in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She lives in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
Lungi is an assistant in our print studio. He is responsible for various maintenance tasks around the workshop and gallery. He is also a promising writer and the inspiration for our writer’s workshops.
David Krut's activities in the arts focus on collaboration and communication in order to encourage a wider awareness of the arts.
His first involvement in fine art was in 1973 when he supervised the establishment of a contemporary art gallery in Bond Street, London. In 1979 he became totally committed to the visual arts as a dealer and publisher of limited edition art. Since then he has collaborated with various galleries and art dealers in the USA, UK, South Africa, Canada and Australia, introducing the works of artists which may otherwise not have been shown in those countries.
An etching by British artist Joe Tilson in 1981 was the first limited edition print published by David Krut Fine Art. This work was created by the artist working with master printer Jack Shirreff at 107 Workshop near Bath, England.
William Kentridge visited 107 Workshop in 1992 and created a series of prints.
Other artists have been commissioned by David to work at 107 Workshop as well as other print workshops in Europe, South Africa and the USA.
In 1997 he edited and produced a William Kentridge CD-ROM, which has proved to be a valuable resource on the artist. It also led to further projects, chiefly on contemporary South African artists, including the TaXi Art Books series which is funded by the French Institute of South Africa, Pro Helvetia - Swiss Arts Commission, the Royal Netherlands Embassy, the National Arts Council and the MTN Art Institute, Johannesburg.
Raphael Krut-Landau joined us in 2005 as the website designer at David Krut Projects. He is currently an undergraduate at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. He enjoys crosswords and other geeky pursuits, and is a devout Wikipedian.
Bronwyn Law-Viljoen is the Managing Editor of David Krut Publishing. She has a Ph.D. in Literature from New York University and has worked as an archivist and rare books librarian. She taught literature and writing at Rhodes University and New York University, and worked in the editorial and publicity departments of the fine art photography publisher Aperture in New York. She is also a freelance writer and has published academic and critical papers on literary theory and contemporary photography
Siobhan McBride works at David Krut Projects, NY with Kate. She studied at the University of Pennsylvania. She lives and paints in Brooklyn.
Kate McCrickard runs David Krut Projects New York with Siobhan McBride. Kate moved to the States from Europe in 2001, after obtaining an MA in Fine Art from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. Kate continues her own painting practice in her Brooklyn studio.
Innocentia is the Bookstore Manager. She matriculated in 2002.Studied Computer and Typing course for 1year at Lwanga College. In 2004 she studied a Call Centre course. She did part time jobs at Clientele until she got the job at David Krut Publishing. She loves working with people. She would love to be a Social Worker.
Lucy Rayner is the gallery manager of David Krut Arts Resource. She studied at the University of Cape Town and received her undergraduate in Cultural Literary Studies with a major in Art History. In 2003 she completed a postgraduate degree in Business Management and Marketing at the university's Commerce Department. At DK Arts she enjoys establishing long-standing relationships with clients and artists and hopes to encourage an increased awareness in the value of original works on paper.
Jillian Ross is the workshop manager for David Krut Print Workshop. Jillian studied at the University of Saskatchewan in Canada. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in May of 2002 with a major in drawing. At DKW she works in collaboration with South African artists, and assists in creating and printing unique works as well as editioning etching projects.
Artists Jillian has collaborated with or editioned work for include: Ryan Arenson, Willem Boshoff, Deborah Bell, Bronwen Findlay, Trasi Henen, Dorothee Kreutzfeldt, Colbert Mashile, Penny Siopis, Sean Slemon, Sarah Kedibone Tabane, Mary Wafer, Clementina van der Walt and Sandile Zulu.
André SC, David Krut Publishing’s Johannesburg-based web-editor since early 2006, is also a virtual artist, a lecturer in Media Design Technology, a designer, a compulsive student, obsessive experimentalist and biker - among other things. His personal website is pixelplexus.co.za. He probably spends way too much time in cyberspace.
Cara Snyman finished her Hons: Fine Arts in 2004, and exhibited work in Post-what at the University of Pretoria and Works on Paper at the Arts Association in Pretoria. She has since worked as Arts Editor at the now defunct FAME Digimag and been involved in the Civil Society Advocacy Programme. She is currently employed at David Krut Publishing as the Editor’s Assistant and Marketing Manager.
Alastair Whitton works as a representative for David Krut in cape town. He graduated in 1994 from the Natal Technikon School of Fine Art in Durban where he was awarded the Emma Smith Overseas Scholarship. He was a Volkskas atelier merit award winner in 1994 and in 1995 following a three-month informal educational visit to artist Marlene Dumas in Amsterdam, he studied at the Glasgow School of Art as part of an international post graduate exchange programme iniated by Roger Palmer and Jeremy Wafer. Following collaborative projects with British artist Neville Gabie he lectured at the Cheltenham College of Art and Design from 1997-998 and lived in London until 2002.
